Tomorrow, 1st May, marks the Labour Day (in most parts of the world). Its the day to appreciate the hardwork of the blue collar workers. They are often the men behind the cutain of a successful nation.

Take Dubai for example, its literally packed with construction workers from South Asia. But they never get the credit. Instead, they get a pay of aprox. USD4/day (according to a source i read few weeks back).

Malaysia- prides itself with the once-world tallest building, the Petronas twin towers. The credit goes to the politicians and the 'citizens of malaysia that made it possible'. But who were the real power behind the building of that mega building, doubtlessly Indonesian and Bangladeshi workers. The built the buidling for  a minimal pay of approx. USD150(which is way below the National Poverty line of USD250). Never did the government thanked the workers.Instead, everytime a disease outbreak occurs, the Indonesian and Bangladeshi workers are the first to get blamed. A common qoute from the ministers will be "Its the foreign workers that bring unhealthy diseases like Tb and AIDS into a clean country like ours".Well, politicians will always be politicians.

Today, we see how in US the government is trying to criminalise illegal immigrant...who are obviously the builders of their high-rise buildings. If those immigrants are sent back, i doubt that the local people can take up their role in construction field.

This treatment of labourers must stop. The politicians realise this too well, but they are too obssessed about being politically correct.Time for a change.
